The Hoosier Hockey Invitational is an adult hockey tournament (21+) organized with the intention of raising funds for Indiana youth hockey. The tournament is charity-based, with all the proceeds from the 2023 event going to the Indianapolis Youth Hockey Association (IYHA) Junior Fuel, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The IYHA Junior Fuel operates youth hockey programs in the Indianapolis area, and are associated with the Indiana Fuel Professional Hockey Team. The junior fuel offer youth ‘learn to play’ programs, and field teams of all skill levels for kids the age of 8 to 18.
The tournament is bringing together 24+ teams from around the Midwest, to compete in a fun, friendly competition. By participating in the tournament, participants will not only be able to showcase their skills and enjoy the sport, they’ll also have the opportunity to bid on items in a silent auction, or purchase raffle tickets for a grand prize, with proceeds being donated directly to the IYHA. The funds raised from the tournament will go towards supporting the development and growth of youth hockey in the Indianapolis area, helping to provide more children with the opportunity to play and learn the sport.
IS THIS A BEER LEAGUE TOURNAMENT?
Adult league, recreational hockey has long been associated with beer and is often considered an integral part of the culture of beer league hockey. For many players, the consumption of beer after games is seen as a way to socialize and bond with their teammates, celebrate their victories and forget about their losses. However, it’s important to note that one doesn’t need to drink beer to still enjoy the comradery and social aspect of adult league hockey. It’s ultimately about the love of the sport that brings players together, rather than the consumption of alcohol.
The relaxed, social atmosphere of adult league hockey allows players to connect with others who share their love of the sport and develop new friendships, and in the case of the Hoosier Hockey invitational, support a great cause. The HHI will be bringing in 300+ adult league hockey players, their friends, and families from across the state of Indiana to raise money for youth hockey, socialize, and play 3-5 games of hockey.
